As you can see this year we didn't even get the topping on before we broke into it! ha! it was delicious! I used my beehive pan from Williams-Sonoma which was very fun! :)
Honey Eyed Seed Cake
My first ritual with other women was a beautiful impromptu adventure into the woods of Novi. I called us the Womyn of the Wyrd. That year I started the tradition of Honey Eyed Seed Cake! It's a sweet honey cake filled with an abundance of sesame seeds. I think we can all agree that there is nothing better then a meal after ritual... I bet smokers would liken it to a cig after sex! ha! The taste reminds me of those sesame candies called Squirrels in many ways. Very Good and perfect for honoring the seed that we will bury into the earth for gestation over the winter, like the daffodil bulb in preparation to rise in the spring....What will you gestate this dark season to bring to fruition in the spring?
So here is a recipe I found on annie.paxye.com a blog for non-coercive parenting.
Honey Eyed Seed Cake
- 1 1/2 cup Sesame Seeds - black if you can find them are fun
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 2/3 cup Butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup Raw Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1/4 cup Honey
- 1/4 cup Milk (I use almond)
- Preheat oven to 375′F and grease an 11 inch round or 10 inch square pan.
- Toast sesame seeds in a cast iron pan, stirring constantly, until seeds are golden and slightly crackling.
- In a small bowl combine flours and baking powder. Set aside.
- Cream butter with sugar. Add eggs one at a time and then stir in honey and milk.
- Add dry ingredients to wet and combine.
- Fold in sesame seeds.
- Pour into grease pan and bake for 12- 15 minutes or until firm to the touch but leaves a toothpick slightly coated.
- While cake is baking, make the topping. When cake comes out of the oven, prick the cake all over with a toothpick and then pour over the topping.
- Return cake to the oven and bake for 3- 5 more minutes and topping has been absorbed into cake and toothpick comes out clean.
- 1/3 cup Honey
- 3 tbsp Butter
- While cake is baking make the topping by bringing honey and butter to a boil on the stove.
